5 Ways to Maintain Your Oral Health During Ramadan – Expert Tips from ConfiDent Palm Dentist

https://www.confidentpalmdentist.com/post/5-ways-to-maintain-your-oral-health-during-ramadan-expert-tips-from-confident-palm-dentist

1. Brush your teeth after Suhoor and after Iftar.

Use quality toothbrush and good toothpaste. Just make sure to brush for two whole minutes. Our dental hygienists recommend using an electric toothbrush or soft manual toothbrush for specific patients. They can teach you how to use those correctly without damaging your gums or teeth enamel and what toothpaste would suit your needs better.

2. Flossing you teeth is extremely important as it removes all your snacks & debris that remain stuck between the teeth.

If you don’t know how to master this practice, visit our team of hygienists and learn many tips on best oral health and homecare routine:

3. Scrape your tongue.

Your tongue is like a lush carpet. Bacteria, food particles, and discharge from your sinuses get caught in the “fibers,” particularly at the very back of the tongue, which is drier and doesn’t get as much natural or manual cleansing.

In fact, it’s estimated that 80-90% of mouth-related bad breath is caused by the bacteria on your tongue. You can purchase tongue scrapers online or at our reception.

Available options: Antibacterial copper or stainless steel scraper). You do not need water to use it.

4. Rinse often only with an alcohol-free mouthwash.

Remember: While the alcohol in most mouthwashes gives you that satisfying antiseptic burning, it will destroy not only the bad bacteria but also the good ones.

Alcohol dehydrates the mouth and a dehydrated mouth is a smelly mouth. We have a great eco-option mouthwash available at ConfiDent Palm Dentist.

5. Stay hydrated.

Saliva is nature’s mouthwash. When you are dehydrated, your body can’t produce enough of this natural mouthwash, leading to bad bacteria build-up in your mouth. A dry mouth isn’t only caused by not drinking enough fluids, however. Your mouth can dry out from doing a lot of talking/lecturing, smoking, and mouth breathing as well.

A lack of hydration is associated with bacterial build-up and, subsequently, bad breath. Increase the consumption of water & liquids intake during non-fasting hours.

Recommendation: decrease the intake of caffeinated and sugary drinks during Ramadan.
