Wisdom Teeth Removal in Dubai

Wisdom Teeth Removal - Pain Free & Simple Procedure

Wisdom teeth are the teeth situated at the very back of our top & bottom jaws and are usually the last ones to come out, if at all.

Once fully used by our ancestors for extra chewing power for rough foods, wisdom teeth are no longer engaged in our eating activities as before (not for everyone).

With evolution, due to our eating habits and food consistency, human jaws became smaller and our mouth is not always able (depending on everyone’s anatomy) to accommodate wisdom teeth due to lack of space.

Wisdom teeth usually develop between the age of 17 and 25, although it could vary from person to person. It’s important to know crucial facts surrounding wisdom teeth and how to properly care for them, hence dental routine visits are so important.

What Are

Wisdom Teeth?

Why should I remove my wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth can cause major discomfort due to a number of common reasons, and it’s essential to get them removed as soon as possible if your dentist identifies an issue such as:

  • Pericoronitis (gum inflammation, strong pain and infection) due to difficulty to access and cleaning well the teeth.

  • Teeth crowding due to space problems and pushing the raw of teeth making them crooked as wisdom teeth grow.

  • Severe decay due to difficulty to access and cleaning well the teeth, thus becoming prone to dental cavities.

Wisdom teeth can also erupt partially through the gum line. This creates an opening for bacteria to get around the tooth, which can lead to gum disease. Wisdom tooth extractions are one of the most common types of oral surgery procedures at ConfiDent.

The Procedure

The procedure always starts with an initial good evaluation and a special radiographic examination such as an X-ray and CBCT bone scan to investigate the location of the nerves in the jaws and teeth roots anatomy.

Generally, a simple procedure, when performed by an expert in Dental Surgery, tooth extraction can be completed in a quick session under local anaesthesia (you don’t feel any pain as your tooth is removed, as the area will be numb).

During this procedure, our Specialist Dr. Olivier Carcuac gently pulls your tooth, being careful not to disturb healthy bone or gum tissue.

Another form of tooth extraction, wisdom tooth surgical removal, is often more complex and can take up a bit more time. Again, the procedure is not traumatic when an experienced surgeon does it.

The length of the surgery will vary depending on the complexity of the procedure. On average, you can expect the process to take only a few minutes for minor procedures.

After Surgery

If an incision has been made during the surgery, dissolving stitches will be used to seal the gum (normally would dissolve within seven to ten days), or these will be removed by the dentist during the follow-up appointment.

While recovery time varies on a case-to-case basis, it normally takes a few days to get back to your usual routine. We recommend avoiding strenuous physical activities and smoking. Vigorous brushing close to the extraction area should also be avoided during the first few days. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed if you have an ongoing infection that needs to be treated.

During the first 24 hours after wisdom teeth removal, you should follow the dentist’s instructions and avoid:

  • Rinsing your mouth out with liquid

  • Smoking

  • Drinking hot liquids: tea, coffee or soup

  • Strenuous physical activity

  • Strong brushing against the gums

Eating cold food and liquids, such as ice cream and smoothies, can help reduce the discomfort. While you will most likely have some minor pain, you should fully recover after a few days.
