What is the procedure like?
The procedure of dental veneers usually requires two to three visits to the dentist, which include - consultation, preparation and placing of the veneers.
The consultation usually involves a clinical examination and making digital scans of your mouth and teeth. Importantly, let the dentist know your main concerns, so the desired results will be achieved if possible (should your anatomy allow it).
To prepare a tooth for a veneer, your dentist will remove a thin layer of enamel from the tooth surface to addition of the thickness of the veneer.
The dentist will make an impression of the prepared tooth and send it to the laboratory for fabrication. A temporary veneer will be placed on the tooth in the meantime.
There are also other possible alternatives to dental veneers.
For instance, the tooth-coloured filling material is an option to repair the tooth. However, it may not work so well for broken tooth corners and may not look as aesthetically pleasing as veneers.
In some situations, porcelain crowns may be indicated, when teeth are severely broken or weakened by a large filling.
